Do All Rehabs Provide the Same Level of Care?

When trying to overcome an addiction, finding the right rehab center for your recovery can mean the difference between reclaiming your life or falling deeper into the pit of drug or alcohol addiction. It’s a dark and lonely place where many people fail to escape. In a quest for sobriety, you often lose many battles for recovery. If you’ve been through rehabs before and failed, then you may wonder if all rehabs provide the same level of care or if all rehabs the same. You may even wonder if a drug rehabilitation center can help you to reach your goal of a clean a sober life. The encouraging news is that there is help out there, and you can find the right rehab to get you on the road to recovery.

The truth about drug rehabilitation centers is that they are not all the same. Just as addicts and their addictions differ, so do rehabs. Are some better than others? The answer is yes. Keep in mind that just because a rehab uses a certain approach to sobriety, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s worse than a rehab that doesn’t use the same approach. Getting clean and sober means finding the right rehab, and just like sobriety, it requires some hard work.

How to Choose the Right Rehab

The search for the right rehab begins within yourself. You must take a hard look at yourself, your addiction, and your personal beliefs and goals. There are thousands of rehab centers and they’re all different. When you start looking for a rehab a few things to consider include:

  • Your goals before and after leaving treatment such as job, family, and aftercare
  • Personal beliefs including religious or spiritual beliefs
  • Your drug(s) of choice
  • Your mental and emotional condition and whether you need mental healthcare as well
  • Your support system including friends, family, churches, and support groups
  • What kind of rehab you can afford

Once you determine the answers to some of these questions about yourself and what you want, you can then make an informed decision on choosing a rehab center that’s best for you.

When you’re looking for a drug treatment facility, keep in mind that some rehabs only offer outpatient services while others are only for inpatient treatment. Some drug treatment centers focus more on a Christian or spiritual treatment program than a 12-step program, and others have programs that focus more on the underlying causes of addiction rather than focusing solely on the addiction itself. It’s a good idea to speak with a treatment professional and discuss your options for treatment. Many addicts have a dual diagnosis, which means that they have underlying conditions such as bipolar disorder or other medical conditions that should be treated at the same time the patient is in drug or alcohol treatment.

Another important factor that goes into choosing the right rehab center will be the cost involved in treatment. The cost of a treatment facility can reflect how good or how poor a rehab center’s treatment is. Free treatment facilities or those operated by the state that offers free treatment for patients may not be as effective as those that charge for treatment. One reason for this is that state funds are limited, which can affect treatment and the type of services offered. Keep in mind that some treatment and help is better than no help at all, and just because a treatment center may be expensive, that doesn’t mean it’s effective. It pays to do your homework or have someone you trust to assist you in finding a drug treatment facility that will work for you. Some points to consider when investigating a drug treatment center include:

  • Inpatient outpatient services
  • Specialties
  • Types of treatments and therapies offered
  • Amenities
  • Location
