DRUG TREATMENT PROGRAMS

DRUG TREATMENT PROGRAMS, TAILORED TO YOUR UNIQUE NEEDS

Here at Prosperity Haven, we recognize that addiction affects people individually. Rather than relying on a single form of treatment, we find it important to understand that every recovering addict responds to treatments differently, and that finding a treatment path that is effective requires a holistic approach that takes each person’s circumstances and individual challenges into account. Life is always a unique experience, and no addiction is born in a vacuum. We believe that the key to recovery is finding the best approach.

That is why drug addiction treatment is a complex topic. However, at the heart of it lies an understanding of addiction on both a physical and psychological level, recognizing how both halves play into every case of addiction, and how these factors affect how a person responds to treatment. At Prosperity Haven, our drug treatment programs are patient-centered and begin with an examination of a person’s symptoms and circumstances, prioritizing safety and health for a successful, pain-free, and long-term recovery.

Our drug treatment programs consider the ways mental health issues, trauma, and behavioral problems feed into a person’s chemical dependence, as well as the myriad of ways in which drug use can negatively impact an individual’s health in both the short-term and long-term. We help people comfortably work their way through the detoxification process and aid them in the management of withdrawal symptoms. Afterwards, long-term treatment at our recovery facility can help recovering addicts turn their life around and work on developing the tools and habits necessary for lasting sobriety.

SIGNS OF DRUG DEPENDENCE

The first part to treating a drug addiction is identifying the problem in the first place. Only a medical professional can make an official diagnosis, but it is often up to the friends and relatives of an addict to recognize the warning signs within their behavior and consider the possibility of a substance abuse problem. To recognize a drug addiction, it’s important to take to heart the signs that a person may be struggling with drug dependence:

Irritability and unpredictable behavior.
Often taking unnecessary risks, needlessly reckless.
Problems with tardiness at work or at school, often out of nowhere, worsening over time.
Issues with maintaining their priorities, becoming sloppy at work or ignoring friends and other responsibilities.
Social withdrawal and isolation, turning towards other new and strange or suspicious friends.
Drug paraphernalia.

MOST COMMONLY USED ADDICTIVE DRUGS

Not all drugs are addictive, or illegal. The most consumed drug on the planet is as mundane as it gets, existing all over the world in the form of a cup of coffee. Many other drugs that can produce problems or lead to dangerous side effects do not cause addiction, including certain regulated substances such as LSD and psilocybin mushrooms.

However, there are several drugs with serious lasting side-effects and addictive properties that cause the human brain to develop a chemical dependence on the substance, introducing abnormal cravings and painful withdrawal symptoms should consumption slow or cease. The most commonly abused addictive drugs include:

Alcohol
Nicotine
Methamphetamine
Cocaine
Prescription depressants (Xanax, Valium, etc.)
Prescription pain medication (Oxycontin, Codeine, etc.)
Heroin
ADHD medication (Adderall, Ritalin, etc.)
Ecstasy
And more
These drugs uniquely affect the brain by mimicking chemicals used by the brain to communicate all sorts of things. While the first high is very powerful, continued use can lead to tolerance (causing the drug to become less effective) and withdrawal issues after quitting, for a variety of reasons. This is the gist of why drug addiction is so powerful and so difficult to treat – rather than being a thing of choice, drug addiction is a brain disease temporarily affecting a person’s cognition, judgment, and more.

CAUSES OF DRUG ADDICTION

The factors through which a person first begins to struggle with drug use are varied and complex. Factors that have been identified include income, sex, stress at work or at home, traumatic experiences, mental health problems, and sudden tragic loss. Factors that affect a person’s mental fortitude or cause them to be more susceptible to the powerful euphoric effects of addictive drug use can contribute to causing an addiction.

On top of all that, research also shows that the rate at which a person can get addicted is often hereditary, and people with a history of long-term drug abuse in the family are more at-risk for developing a chemical dependence if they begin using drugs as well.

At its core, however, drug use begins and ends with the availability of drugs. While many factors push someone over the edge to start using, the first step of treatment is to address the availability of the drugs before finding ways to tackle why drug use first began.

HOW DRUG ADDICTION IS TREATED

Rehab programs, sober living homes, and other drug recovery resources help people who are addicted find ways to distance themselves from drugs to avoid temptation and minimize the chance of relapsing after severe cravings. From there, treatment can begin. Group treatments as well as one-on-one therapies are very effective, provided that each treatment is built and tailored to the individual being treated. Applicable treatments may include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Family Therapy
  • Medically-Monitored Detoxification
  • Art Therapy
  • Music Therapy
  • And more

At Prosperity Haven, we believe that every recovering addict needs a treatment process that addresses their unique challenges.
